The Clean Energy Trade Ally Network: Connecting Contractors with Opportunity
The Clean Energy Trade Ally Network is a centralized trade ally organization supporting energy efficiency and clean energy efforts across National Grid programs. We connect trade allies with program opportunities, technical resources, marketing support, training, and more — all designed to meet trade allies where they're at and deliver more energy efficient projects to customers in National Grid service territories.
National Grid Program Access
Trade allies in the network participate in one or more National Grid energy savings programs. If your business offers services or measures aligned with any of the following programs, you're eligible to apply to the network.
These programs are subject to change in 2026.
- Applies to commercial gas and electric, as well as multifamily and small business weatherization.
- Includes air sealing, insulation, window/door upgrades.
- Prescriptive rebate program offering predetermined incentives for installing high-efficiency natural gas equipment.
- Measures include space and water heating and controls, steam traps, insulation, and commercial kitchen equipment.
- Who’s eligible? Commercial and industrial in territory with annual electric use greater than 110 kWh. Commercial natural gas customers on firm commercial gas rate codes in UNY that pays the System Benefits Charge (SBC).
- Offers stream trap survey and repair programs, total building comfort (envelope), and custom pipe insulation.
- Prescriptive rebate program offering predetermined incentives for installing high-efficiency natural gas equipment.
- Measures include space and water heating and controls, steam traps, insulation, and commercial kitchen equipment.
- Who’s eligible? Commercial and industrial in territory with annual electric use greater than 110 kWh. Commercial natural gas customers on firm commercial gas rate codes in UNY that pays the System Benefits Charge (SBC).
- Offers stream trap survey and repair programs, total building comfort (envelope), and custom pipe insulation.
- C&I Electric/Gas offers various financial incentives and technical resources to help C&I customers identify energy-saving opportunities and upgrade existing equipment to help save energy and reduce costs.
- Measures include air compressors, HVAC, VFDs, lighting controls, EMS, gas-saving equipment.
- Who’s eligible? C&I in territory with annual electric use greater than 110 kWh
- Incentives cover up to 50-60% of incremental project costs.
- Offers energy efficiency support to existing multifamily buildings (5+ units), including no-cost upgrades and incentives for both electric and gas systems.
- Who’s eligible? Multifamily buildings with 5 or more dwelling units in National Grid’s New York service territory. Includes both affordable (less than or equal to 80% AMI) and market-rate properties.
- Helps pay for small commercial and residential electric heat pumps for space heating and heat pump water heaters.
- Includes ground-source and air-to-water heat pumps in addition to air source/more common forms. Need to be cold-climate capable and is intended to replace natural gas, oil, or electric resistance systems.
- Who’s eligible? All customers/businesses in territory, including multifamily.
- Provides incentives for L2 and DCFC electric vehicle infrastructure in all building types.
- Energy efficiency program to help small commercial customers reduce energy usage and utility bills through cost-effective upgrades.
- Who’s eligible? Small businesses with average demand under 250 kw and located in NG NY service area.
- Offers free on-site energy assessment, incentives covering up to 60-70% of project costs, turnkey installation by approved contractors, financing options including interest-free repayment plans.
- Measures include lighting upgrades and sensors, small gas measures, custom refrigeration measures, site specific custom projects.
- Instant rebates on LEDs or lighting controls for NON-residential electric customers. Commercial, industrial, municipalities.
- Combines facility monitoring systems with technical services.
- Analyzes facility data to see how they can build efficiencies, then computerize and optimize the systems (could include controlled window shades/tinting, ramped up/down HVAC depending on air flow needs or occupancy sensors, etc.).
- The RTEM program combines facility monitoring systems with technical services to help facility owners, managers and operators take action.
- New York State Affordable Multifamily Energy Efficiency Program (AMEEP) is a combined effort of the Joint Utilities of New York and the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA). The program offers incentives for the installation of energy efficient equipment and technology to affordable multifamily buildings with five or more units.
- Affordable multifamily housing is defined as buildings that have regulatory agreements with a housing agency or in which at least 25% of the units are, or are expected to be, occupied by households earning not more than 80% of Area Median Income or State Median Income, whichever is greater.
- Financial incentives and technical assistance for agri-business looking to upgrade their equipment to more energy efficient alternatives.
- Places like farms, dairy operations, greenhouses, food processors, other controlled-environment agriculture.
- Includes things like variable speed drives on vacuum pumps, refrigeration heat recovery systems, milk pre-cooler heat exchangers, waterer timers and PEI-rated clean water pumps, high-speed circulator fans, DLC-qualified horticulture lighting systems, LED lighting and advanced controls, high-speed fans and dehumidifiers with or without VSDs, refrigeration compressors, plate coolers and heat recovery systems, equipment for food processing, storage, or cold chain operations.
